Dog food refers to food most importantly intended for consumption by dogs. Being carnivorous,( i.e they eat flesh) dogs have sharp, pointy teeth, and have small gastric tracts better suited for the consumption of meat. Despite of this natural flesh eating design, dogs have still managed to evolve over many years to survive on the meat and non-meat scraps and leftovers of human food on a variety of foods.
Some people prepare their own dog food, give their dogs meals made from ingredients that they purchase in grocery or health-food shops or give their dogs a raw food diet. The dog is neither wholly flesh eater nor wholly grass eater, but of a mixed kind, and can receive proper viands from either flesh or vegetables.
